In response to the food crisis affecting the commune of Caracol, on Monday, december 16, 2024, ADRA Haiti officially launched the Emergency Food and Cash Assistance in Haiti (EFACH) project through the distribution of hundreds of food kits at the National School of Caracol. This program, funded by the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and ADRA Canada, with the support of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Haiti, aims to alleviate the suffering of the region’s most vulnerable populations.

A total of 1,070 households, or nearly 8,560 people, will benefit in three phases from enriched food baskets. Each kit, designed to meet basic nutritional needs, includes a bag of rice, a bag of beans, a package of spaghetti (24 packs), a pot of sugar, a gallon and a half of oil, and a bag of cornmeal. These essential distributions are accompanied by cash transfers of 30 US dollars, enabling beneficiaries to purchase propane gas for cooking meals.
Warm Welcomes and Heartfelt Testimonials
The first day of distribution was marked by palpable enthusiasm among the beneficiaries. Women, the elderly, and people with limited mobility expressed their gratitude, some even rediscovering their smiles despite ongoing hardships.
Anita, an octogenarian residing in the commune, emotionally shared: “It is God Himself visiting us in this difficult time. Thanks to this assistance, I no longer fear the end of this year.”
Similarly, Joseph, another beneficiary, praised this act of solidarity, stating: “For the first time in my life, people have come to me to help. I am truly happy.”

Moreover, the EFACH project embodies an integrated and thoughtful response to the food crisis impacting the region. By combining food aid and monetary support, ADRA Haiti and its partners aim not only to address the immediate needs of vulnerable families but also to provide flexibility that allows households to better manage their daily lives.
Thus, the key objectives of the project are divided into two main components:
- Distribution of food kits: These baskets contain essential food items carefully selected to ensure sufficient nutritional intake for beneficiary families.
- Cash transfers: Targeted financial assistance enables households to purchase propane gas, reducing the burden of securing energy for cooking.
Through concrete and coordinated action, ADRA and its partners demonstrate that well-structured humanitarian efforts can restore hope to affected populations.

It is important to emphasize that the EFACH initiative goes beyond short-term aid; it reflects a sustainable humanitarian vision. By combining compassion and efficiency, this project addresses the socio-economic challenges facing Haiti. In Caracol, this gesture of solidarity marks a decisive step toward a more secure future for thousands of families.
