EFACH Project: ADRA Haiti Addresses the Food Crisis in Caracol with a Second Distribution Day

On this Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the National School of Caracol was the scene of a remarkable initiative orchestrated by ADRA Haiti. As part of the Emergency Food and Cash Assistance in Haiti (EFACH) project, a second food distribution day was organized, providing vital assistance to hundreds of residents in the commune. Pregnant women, people with reduced mobility, women, and the elderly were among those who benefited from this relief program.

This project, aimed at combating food insecurity that severely impacts the region, is funded by the Canadian Foodgrains Bank in partnership with ADRA Canada. It represents a holistic approach designed to address immediate needs while helping households regain a degree of self-sufficiency.

Substantial Assistance for Households in Need

A total of 1,070 households, representing nearly 8,560 individuals, will benefit from the assistance provided over three successive phases. Each household receives an enriched food kit that includes:

  • A bag of rice;
  • A bag of beans;
  • A package of spaghetti (24 packets);
  • A pot of sugar;
  • A gallon and a half of oil;
  • A bag of corn.

These essential food items, selected for their nutritional value, are complemented by a monetary transfer of 30 US dollars. This financial assistance allows families to purchase propane gas for cooking, thus alleviating a significant part of their domestic expenses.

Warm Welcome and Heartfelt Testimonials

The second distribution day was marked by palpable enthusiasm among the beneficiaries. Smiling faces and words of gratitude filled the day, reflecting the profound impact of this initiative on local communities.

“We have been blessed by the presence of this institution in our communities. We were served with dignity and respect. We now have food for a month,” shared one beneficiary. Another added, “How can we not thank ADRA for this?”

These testimonials not only express the beneficiaries’ gratitude but also highlight the importance of an intervention carried out with humanity and consideration.

A Model of Hope and Solidarity

In the face of a food crisis that severely challenges vulnerable communities, ADRA Haiti embodies a model of hope and solidarity. This initiative, supported by international funding and executed with local precision, demonstrates the significance of cooperation in addressing humanitarian challenges.

With two distribution days already completed and three more to come, the EFACH project continues its mission with determination, offering Caracol not only vital resources but also a beacon of hope for a better future.

Furthermore, ADRA is already planning for the second distribution phase in January, followed by the third in February.
